Exo Terra Reptile Housing Tanks
Housing your reptile properly is simple if you know all about your reptile’s natural habitat. You will have to choose your reptile’s enclosure based on where they usually live. For example if you have a bearded dragon, which is found in Australia desert areas, you would need a desert terrarium or exo terra vivarium for your pet. Likewise a snake found in the rainforest will require slight modifications to the housing to make them happy and healthy.
At Exo Terra you have eight natural habitats to choose from. The most popular option is the glass Exo Terra housing. The glass structure offers you a full view of your reptile from most angles. The top will be well ventilated and have areas for wires and lighting to get through to your pet. The glass terrariums work well for desert and rainforest animals due to the different range of sizes.
If you have a turtle or amphibian you will need to look at the turtle terrariums offered in the Exo Terra housing products. Turtles do not tend to escape or harm others. Therefore, turtles can have an open air cage with an entire water surface. In fact you can have water and rocks for them to sun bathe on in the turtle terrarium. Water plants can also be added to help keep your pet happy.
Among your other options are the screen terrariums. A screen terrarium from Exo Terra is different than the Flexarium. A screen terrarium provides more ventilation just like the Flexarium, but it is the construction that is different. A screen terrarium still has plastic like sides like the glass terrarium. The screen walls make it easier for the reptile to get fresh air, without allowing them to escape. They are best for small reptiles though. The Flexarium is completely mesh nylon with flexible sides and bottom. Even the rods inside to make the Flexarium stand up can be collapsed. This style is great for chameleons and other small reptiles. It is especially good for arboreal dwellers because you can place tall trees and other climbing objects inside.
If you have a smaller pet and do not wish to have a lot of extra options within the reptile terrarium you can choose from these other Exo Terra housing options. They are faunarium, breeding box, explorarium, and starter kits. Starter kits will get you started with everything you need. Unfortunately the terrariums are often smaller than your pet will eventually need.
Breeding boxes are for hatchlings or eggs that you may be raising. They are again small and not meant for adult reptiles. Faunariums work well for small frogs, turtles, and spiders. They are definitely going to be half the size of glass and other terrarium options.
Lastly you have the explorarium which is meant more for professionals like scientists. This type of Exo Terra housing can be folded for carrying into nature. It can also be used for outside purposes if you wish to have the terrarium in your patio or garden. However, it is a mesh nylon and too small for most adult snakes and the bearded dragon.
